Last week, the Faculty of Medicine at the Hebrew University hosted a special Teddy Bear Hospital event dedicated to the memory of two of our fallen students: Eyal Berkowitz z"l, who fell in battle in Gaza, and Carmel Gat z"l, who was murdered in captivity by Hamas.
The heartwarming initiative, which welcomed over 400 children and their stuffed companions, was organized by Eyal Berkowitz z"l classmates Hadassah Merzbach, Micha Kardash, and Neria Wilf in collaboration with the Hebrew Medical Students Association.
Young participants brought their dolls and teddy bears for "treatment," learning important health principles through interactive and engaging activities designed to make healthcare concepts accessible and less intimidating.
"We wanted to create a living, vibrant memorial that would help the community understand the true character of our fallen friends. Both Eyal and Carmel were compassionate caregivers who formed meaningful connections with patients of all ages. This event embodies their spirit by giving children positive experiences with healthcare—exactly what Eyal and Carmel would have provided to their own patients.", explained the organizers.
The successful event stands as a touching tribute to two promising medical students whose dedication to healing and service continues to inspire the faculty community.
