The effects of various bariatric procedures on islet function and abdominal lipid partitioning
We are longitudinally evaluating patients undergoing bariatric procedures in regards to beta cell function using glucose tolerance tests as well as various metabolic clamp studies. Abdominal lipid partitioning has a major impact on the metabolic phenotype and we are trying to use it as a predictor of the clinical response to bariatric procedures.
Effects of anatomical modifications of the GI tract and/or  exposure to various fatty acids on the gut hormone profile
We are evaluating manipulations (surgical and biochemical) and their impact on incretins and satiety inducing hormones secreted from the gastrointestinal tract.
Endothelial function in dysfunction in young patients with type 1 diabetes
We are evaluation endothelial function in children and young adults with type 1 diabetes using various technologies and trying to determine the impact of metabolic control and traditional cardiovascular risk factors on this early marker of atherogenesis.
