Past BDRC Activities

After a long hiatus due to Covid-19, we are pleased to announce the 2022 travel grant initiative of the BDRC. This award is aimed to support the participation of our students in international meetings. Awardees who travel to conferences in Europe will be supported by up to $800 US dollars, while those who travel to North America or to the East Asia will get up $1200 to support their trip. The BDRC will fund no more than 50% of the total cost of the travel and participation in the meeting (The awardees will need to provide proof of airfare/travel, registration, accommodation costs).
The following rules define eligibility to apply:
  • The applicant must be an MSc, PhD student or a postdoc, who conduct their research in a BDRC member laboratory.
  • The awardee will have to present her/his work in the meeting as either a poster or an oral presentation. We ask the awardees to provide us with a photograph of them lecturing or presenting their poster. The images will be posted at the center’s website.
  • An application must be specific to one international and relevant conference which will be held no more than 1 year from the date of submission.
  • The awardees must provide evidence of their securing additional funding from their advisors and/or other sources of travel funds for the same conference.
  • The deadline for submission is June 30th 2022.
We are pleased to announce the 2022 call for applications for the “The Mann family and the Djamil z”l and Gladys Shukur awards for outstanding PhD students of the BDRC”. This initiative is meant to award students who have led an innovative research project in a BDRC member laboratory, and published at least one scientific article as a first author (or first co-author) in a leading, peer-reviewed international journal.
Two awards of USD 1,600 each will be given.
Eligibility criteria:
  • The work has been conducted in a BDRC member laboratory.
  • The student is the first author (or co-first author) of at least one scientific article (not a review) which was published (or was accepted for publication) in an internationally leading, peer-reviewed scientific journal.
  • An eligible article should be published not earlier than April 1st 2021.
To apply a student has to provide the following documents:
  • A filled form for each eligible article (the form is attached here).
  • An updated CV.
  • A recommendation letter of her/his supervisor that highlights the contribution of the applicant to the published study (or studies).
  • A PDF file(s) of the published (or accepted) article(s).
The documents should be sent to Dr. Adi Inbal (adiin@ekmd.huji.ac.il), no later than Tuesday, June 7th, 2022.
The BDRC committee has decided to publish a call for seed funding for a collaborative research project that brings together at least two BDRC labs. The expected amount of funding is 18-20 K USD to be shared between the labs.
It should be clear from the proposal that this is truly a collaborative effort that combines the expertise of two labs (at least). Work that is aimed and collecting preliminary data for a future extramural funding proposal is especially encouraged.
The budget should also reflect expenses of both labs, and should cover research expenses (reagents, consumables). We will not fund the purchase of equipment, travel or salaries/fellowships.
An ad hoc committee composed of BDRC PIs who will not submit a proposal (and possibly external reviewers) will review the applications and decide on the winners. Dr. Yoni Kupchik, who was the 2021 grantee, will head that committee.
If you wish to apply, please fill the attached form and send it together with a 2-page research proposal and a short biosketch of 2 pages or less, to yonatank@ekmd.huji.ac.il no later than Sunday July 31st, 2022. (Do not send applications to me or any other member of the BDRC committee). Please include an indicative budget according to the above instructions.
Some formating instructions:
  • 2 pages (not including references - figures should be included in 2 page application)
  • 11 pt font, single spacing, 1/2 inch margins all around
Importantly, each BDRC member can participate in only one proposal!
