Welcome to the Pediatric Nephrology Research Lab at Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center. Established in 2017, our lab is led by Principal Investigators Dr. Oded Volovelsky and Dr. Morris Nechama. We are dedicated to advancing our understanding of kidney diseases in children and developing innovative therapies to improve patient outcomes.
Our Mission
Under the guidance of Dr. Volovelsky and Dr. Nechama, we strive to unravel the complex mechanisms underlying pediatric kidney disorders, with a particular focus on developmental origins of kidney disease and tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Our unique strength lies in the synergy between Dr. Volovelsky, a leading physician-scientist, and Dr. Nechama, an accomplished biologist. This collaboration ensures that our research addresses real-world clinical challenges while leveraging cutting-edge scientific methods.
Dr. Volovelsky's roles as the head of the MD-PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine, director of the Pediatric Nephrology Unit, and chairman of the Israeli Society of Pediatric Nephrology underscore our commitment to bridging the gap between clinical practice and basic science. This multifaceted approach allows us to identify pressing clinical questions and pursue them with rigorous scientific inquiry.
Our Team
Our diverse team includes talented PhD and MD-PhD students, physicians, and scientists from various backgrounds. We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and scientific rigor. Our lab culture is built on mutual respect, open dialogue, and the celebration of diverse perspectives.
We maintain a vibrant academic atmosphere through weekly lab meetings and frequent personal interactions with our PIs. These regular touchpoints ensure that every team member receives close mentorship and guidance, creating an ideal environment for professional growth and scientific discovery.
Our Impact
Since our inception, our work has been recognized with prestigious research awards and grants. We actively collaborate with national and international partners to drive progress in pediatric nephrology research, always with the goal of translating our findings into improved care for children with kidney diseases.
