Short Bio

I am an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine - the oldest and largest school of public health in Israel and recognized by the W.H.O. as a Collaborating Center for Capacity Building in Public Health.

In 2007-2012 I directed the International Master of Public Health (IMPH) Program at the Braun SPH which has nearly 800 IMPH graduates from 90 countries mostly in low-income and transitional-income regions.

My research focuses primarily on the epidemiology of alcohol and drug use and misuse, and on the application of information and communication technologies for health promotion among young adults. This work is currently funded by grants from the European Union (7th EU RTD) and other local and international funding agencies, and is reflected in over 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.

I consult to the Israeli Parliament and other governmental-agencies on national alcohol and drug policy and strategy.

Most importantly perhaps, I am a proud and happy grandfather of six deliciously wonderful grandchildren (my children aren't too bad either)!
