Sagol Program in Computational Medicine

Program Highlights

An integrated course of study leading to a BSc in computer science and the pre-clinical medical studies within four years. After four years the stduents continue to the clinical studies of the MD program. The program is open to a limited number of medical students who will undergo a special admissions interview.
The computing and data revolution is transforming the world of medicine as well. The Faculty of Medicine views the graduates of this program as the forefront of future physicians in the fields of computational medicine and personalized medicine, who will be able to combine clinical practice with deep understanding of algorithms and tools that are shaping the future of healthcare.

About the program

The Sagol Program in Computational Medicine is a unique and innovative program that offers an MD degree in medicine alongside a bachelor's degree in computer science, designed for outstanding students with both medical and computational orientation.
In the first part of the program (3 years), students study toward a BSc in medical sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, while simultaneously deepening their foundations in mathematics and computer science at the School of Engineering and Computer Science. In the fourth year, students focus on computer science and complete the requirements for their degree.
At the end of four years, students are awarded a bachelor's degree in medical sciences and a bachelor's degree in computer science. After that, they continue with clinical medical studies to complete the MD degree (a total of 7 years of study).
Additionally, the program encourages students to apply for direct-track MD-PhD programs or MSc programs that integrate and develop their medical, computational, and scientific abilities. Students are more than welcome to join relevant research labs early in their studies and to take specialized courses in computational medicine that blend both worlds.
This unique program, established through a generous donation from Mr. Sami Sagol, is one of the most demanding programs at the Hebrew University. Students receive a monthly living stipend and personal academic mentoring throughout their studies, and they participate in special workshops in computational medicine.
